This holiday season we are coming together as a community, to support our neighbours in need at the CRAB Park tent city.
Crab Park is the first legal outdoor shelter space in Canada. Being able to have a safe space to legally shelter is huge for the residents, and they have been able to build an amazing community in difficult circumstances. There is a communal kitchen space, a warming tent, and a donation shed. The camp has about 60 residents. Radio-Canada recently published a lovely story (in French) about some of the residents who live there: https://ici.radio-canada.ca/reportage-photo/7270/parc-crab-vancouver-tentes-sans-abris.
This year, a special Christmas Day is being planned for the community, and a fundraising campaign is underway to ensure that everyone is able to have a warm Christmas meal, gifts, and items that are essential for survival. We encourage you to contribute cash on-line at https://chuffed.org/project/crab-park-christmas.
We suggest you use “Unitarian Universalists of the Salish Sea” as your last name, so we can track our fundraising results (but of course this is completely up to you).
As this is a practice of mutual, direct aid, and not through any registered charity, your donation is not eligible for a tax receipt.
