Monthly Service: "The Three Faces of Grief"

  • 16 Mar 2024
  • 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM
  • St Margaret's Cedar Cottage Anglican

Lindsay Hindle will guide congregants through a dynamic three part Sound Medicine service to experience the ways making sound, voice work and listening to a sound journey can help us process emotions. This is a VERY different kind of service where everyone is invited to engage in a somatic/body experience using their voice.  Sound work is very powerful, and there is nothing cerebral or passive about it. It is intentionally expressive, visceral, vulnerable and physical. Grief is different for everyone, please know that you are welcome to participate (or not) in ways that feel right to you. If you have any questions please email Lindsay.

Accessories you may wish to bring with you for your participation or comfort include: shakers or rattles, your own hand drum if you have one, ear plugs, kleenex, a blanket or pillow, water to stay hydrated since you'll be activating your voice.

Part 1 Face of Grief : Anger

Working with the powerful rhythms and dynamics of drumming, you'll be encouraged to explore the dynamic ranges of anger. From "low rumble frustration" expressed as grumbles or growls, to "explosive rage" whooped or yelled out, how you choose to use your voice to explore the energy spectrum of anger is up to you.

*Note for those who are sensory or noise sensitive, be aware that the drumming and vocalizing could reach a loud range that some may find uncomfortable. Your options to lessen the intensity could be to bring earplugs or step outside of the main room.

Part 2 Face of Grief : Confusion

Working together in the moment as a group of voices like a choir, Lindsay will guide sections of people into singing simple tones, words or sounds as we make up a song journey together in the moment to explore confusion and how it shifts from a cacophony of dissonance to finding our way back to harmony and resolve.

Part 3 Face of Grief: Love

In the final exploration, you are encouraged to sit back or lie on the floor and listen as Lindsay performs a Sound Healing Journey using her voice and musical instruments. Receive the healing frequencies of a vocal journey sung from the heart taking you deep into your own heart space to shine healing love into yourself, your inner child, or memories of loved ones you carry with you.

There is some street parking, some parking in the lot of Lord Selkirk elementary (about 3 blocks away) and some parking at the Famous Foods (also about 3 blocks away). Hopefully this map will be useful in finding the church and parking.

We will follow this worship with a potluck meal. Feel free to bring a dish or drinks to share.  All cutlery and plates are provided.

If you are able, please come a bit early or stay a bit later to help set up for or clean up from our time together. Many hands make light work!
