Homestays requested for October 23-25
Board members of the Eliot Institute, a non-profit organization that organizes camps and retreats for Unitarian Universalists and their friends and families, are gathering at Vancouver Unitarians on October 24th for their autumn Board meeting. Most Eliot Board members live in Washington and Oregon and are looking for home stays with other UUs while they are here, from Friday October 23rd to Sunday October 25th. If you can offer a room in the Vancouver area (or further afield with the inclusion of a ride to and from VanU, as not all are coming with a vehicle), please contact the Eliot Institute secretary Drew Betz or UUSS member Carla Mandy.

Now’s the time to share your voice through our newly launched national UU survey,Who We Are, Together. This survey invites Unitarian Universalists across Canada to share your perspectives, experiences, and hopes directly with the CUC, with the aim of supporting Unitarian Universalism in Canada going forward into the future. The survey explores many of the same themes we’ll be discussing in our upcoming meetings with congregations.

YA Unicamp 2026: A Weekend of Connection & Community

This year’s Unicamp 2026 YA Retreat was a total success! From September 11–13, 17 young adults, ages 19 – 40, gathered for a weekend filled with adventure, connection, and community!
Throughout the weekend, we participated in fun activities such as beach time, a cave tour, crafts, dancing, and more. Most importantly, we had plenty of opportunities to connect and reflect. Most importantly, we were grateful for the time we shared in worship, reflection, and growing together in faith.
We’re so thankful for the special memories we made and are grateful to everyone who participated and helped make the weekend such a success. We’re already looking forward to what’s in store for YA Unicamp 2027!

October 11 is National Coming Out Day—a day to celebrate authenticity, recognize the courage of Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and other sexual- and gender-diverse (2SLGBTQI+) people, and reaffirm our shared responsibility to create safer spaces for everyone.
“Coming out”, as the act of publicly or privately sharing one’s sexual orientation and/or gender identity, can look different for everyone. For some, it isn’t a defining moment because they have always lived openly as their authentic selves. For others, it can be an empowering milestone in their journey. For many, however, it remains difficult and even dangerous, as 2SLGBTQI+ people too often face rejection, discrimination, and harassment. And let’s face it, coming out is rarely a single event but an ongoing journey that demands both courage and resilience. Many 2SLGBTQI+ people come out more than once: to themselves, to parents and siblings, to extended family, colleagues, friends, and beyond.
