For this gathering please bring the title or titles of books that have most inspired you, or led to a shift in your journey toward a deeper commitment to climate action, social justice or the ‘truth' part of Truth and Reconciliation. SOCIAL JUSTICE

No Kings!

A few of us from UUSS braved inclement weather on October 18 to join the No Kings protest in Vancouver.  Little did we know we were part of making history.   On Saturday, an estimated 7 million people poured into the streets across the US, making No Kings the largest protest in U.S. history — more than 2.1 percent of the country mobilized in one day. That’s breathtaking. That’s history in motion. More on the story here.

Leqaa is a  32-year-old Muslim Palestinian woman and long-time U.S. resident, who was detained after a peaceful protest for human rights in Gaza.  More info

From Independent Jewish Voices: Tell Canada to Sanction Settler Violence Now!

Over the past weeks, we have seen a steep, disturbing rise in settler violence and destruction throughout the Israeli occupied West Bank.

This week, over 11 buildings were destroyed  around Masafer Yatta. Buildings that were homes to families who have lived here for centuries. Wells that served as some of the few access points to water in the area were destroyed. Caves that were dug out and used for homes, gatherings, and storage were demolished in one fell swoop by the occupation forces.

Many villages in this area are under demolition orders which have been upheld by the Israeli Supreme Court. The army claims that it needs this land for training exercises and that all the residents must leave. For most of the people who reside here, they wake up every morning and wonder if this will be the day their home is destroyed.

Now more than ever, we need to continue to pressure our governments to end their complicity in Israel’s ongoing war crimes and apartheid.

Earlier this year, IJV released a report documenting the dangerous rise in illegal settler violence and calling on Canada to take meaningful and urgent action to stop it.

Send a letter today demanding that the Canadian government expand sanctions on settler violence and apply all pressure possible to end its rampant rise in communities like Masafer Yatta.

From Avaaz: Stand with Jewish
Voices for Justice

In 24 hours, the EU will discuss
whether sanctions against Israel
clearly remain on the table – and
for the first time since the ceasefire,
a powerful coalition of Jewish
voices
has come together, urging world
leaders to keep the pressure up
until real accountability and freedom are
achieved. Their call can help shift
the political mood and give leaders
courage to act decisively -- amplify
their voices and stand with them.
